The Livingston High School varsity and junior varsity bowling teams are both in the middle of strong seasons.
Varsity
LHS’varsity bowling team has been holding its own against tough competition in the Colonial Division of the Super Essex Conference. Against a much-improved West Orange team, the Lancers won the second game, 869-841, behind Aidan Reyes’s 236, Parker Shulman’s 185, and Victoria Cheng’s 179. Reyes and Shulman are leading LHS in average with 192 and 190, respectively. Cheng is second among the girls’ averages with 169.
After sweeping Seton Hall Prep earlier this season, the Pirates got their revenge and defeated LHS in three games. Reyes rolled his best series of the season with scores of 234, 181, and 255, for a 670 total. Sungi Sharif posted a 176, with Prakhar Samaiya scoring a 162.
LivingstondefeatedWestCaldwell Tech, 2-1. Cheng deposited a 206, and Reyes hit a 222.
Millburn defeated LHS, 2-1, but not before some excitement was provided by Nick Paradiso. Paradiso recently was elevated to the varsity ranks and proved his worth by rolling seven consecutive strikes and scoring a 255-603 series. Shulman was outstanding with games of 223, 189, and 202, for a 614 series. Amber Hui rolled a 160 and 171. Cheng stayed in the hunt for high average, with a 169 and 196.
The team hopes to perform well this week at the Essex County Tournament and Victoria Cheng has a chance to “three-peat” as the Essex County Female Champion.
Junior Varsity
The junior varsity bowling team has been steadily improving throughout the season. Coach Griff Hughes has many new bowlers this season and hopes to groom some to be future varsity contributors.
LHS squeaked out a 2-1 win over West Orange, with Matthew Handler scoring a 140 and 157. Douglas Coppola’s 120 and Nick Paradiso’s 189 helped the Lancers win, with a 603-600 score. Josh Chen had a good day, bowling a 140 and 120.
Livingston defeated Seton Hall, 2-1. Coppola was on his mark with a 169. Abhimaan Chandan posted 145, while teammateAayush Saxena scored a 128. Gavin Chen’s 143 and 118 helped to secure the win. Sebastien Vernet-Fabien rolled a 121 and Amber Hui made her marks for a 154.
The junior varsity Lancers lost against Millburn, 2-1, but Matthew Handler had his best day of the season, rolling a 158, 199, and 220.
