The Livingston High School girls’ swim team concluded another competitive season, finishing with a 6-5 record and making a run to the quarterfinals in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) tournament. The girls defeated River Dell in the first round of the tournament, securing a close win with a final score of 87-83. They lost to Morristown by ten points during a close meet in the following round.

The winning season started with a victory against Bloomfield, where the team won by a score of 69-15. However, they faced obstacles early in the season, losing to both Mount S aint Dominic Academy and Columbia. However, the Lancers refused to allow these teams to stop them from continuous growth. With hard work and dedication, the girls rebounded with an impressive streak of wins over Newark East Side, West Essex, and Montclair Kimberley Academy.

An outstanding performer this season was freshman Sara Wei, who ended the season with a new school record in the 200 Individual Medley, which was originally set in (Continued on Page A-7) 1987 by Emily Shin. With a new time of 2:09:42, Wei not only broke a record nearly four decades old, but also placed first out of all of Essex County. She also qualified for the Meet of Champions in both the 200-meter individual medley and the 10-meter breaststroke, where she will face the strongest swimmers from across New Jersey, including several individuals who qualified for the most recent 2024 Olympic Trials.

In the 2025 SEC-ECADA Championships, the girls team showcased their talent by placing sixth, an improvement from their eighth-place standings from last year. They defeated notable rival teams including Millburn, who ranked eighth, and West Essex, which placed 13th. Placing fourth in the 400-meter freestyle relay, swimmers Sara Wei, Alyson Hom, Lillian Woodsmall, Hailey Ko earned the team the points needed to win. This year,16 girls qualified for the championships.

“I’ve seen significant growth in the girls this season,” said head coach Tracy Rosenberg. “Both their individual performances and teamwork have contributed to our success. The girls have worked hard, and their dedication is reflected in the results. Competing against such strong teams and making a comeback this season is a testament to our talent and commitment.”

Coach Rosenberg said that future seasons look strong for the team, and the swimmers are determined to continue improving their times and beat more records in the next coming seasons.
