Eight members of Newark Academy’s (NA) Class of 2025, including Livingston Ayanna Varma of Livingston, have committed to playing their respective sports at the collegiate level.
NA – an independent school for grades six through 12 in Livingston – celebrated five NCAA Division I and three Division III commitments through various signing day ceremonies.
Varma, a Division III commit to Williams College for tennis, is excited to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level.
“This reflects the years of hard work I’ve dedicated to pursuing excellence in my sport and gives me an amazing platform to keep growing as a student-athlete – learning important lessons both on and off the court,” Varma said. “I’m incredibly grateful for the journey so far and am so excited for what’s ahead!”
NA’s Division I signings include Arjun Caprihan, to the University of Pennsylvania for golf; Jaeden Henry, to the New Jersey Institute of Technology for track and field; Anousheh Reid, to Cornell University for fencing; Noah Shoman, to the University of Notre Dame for fencing; and Zachary Shoman, to Duke University for fencing.
In addition to Varma, NA’s Division III commitments include Phoebe Kaplan to Case Western Reserve University for swimming and Michael Cetrulo to Wesleyan University for wrestling.
“I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate so many of our student-athletes taking the next step to compete in college athletics,” said Seth Lieberman, director of athletics at NA. “This milestone is the result of incredible commitment, passion and perseverance from the athletes, their coaches and their families. It’s a proud day for NA, and a true reflection of what’s possible when academic and athletic excellence come together!”
