Memorial Service Today For Robert A. Longson

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, June 26, at the Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, Florida, for Robert Albert Longson. A New Jersey memorial service will be held at a later date for Mr. Longson, who died at the age of 90 on June 19. Born in Newark, Mr. Longson attended schools in Newark, Livingston and West Orange. After graduating in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Pennsylvania. He was appointed a senior naval aviator on the USS Vicksburg. Following his discharge in 1945, Mr. Longson earned an associate degree in geo-technical engineering from Newark College of Engineering. He worked for Randolph Township as a construction fi eld inspector and then for the New Jersey testing laboratories as a soil inspector, working on a major interchange for the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. For many years before retiring, he was partners with Frank Lehr in Analytical Subsurface Investigations. A member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Boonton, Mr. Longson was a member of the Walter J. Barrett Knights of Columbus Council 1954 for more than 25 years and served as a Grand Knight. Predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Adeline, he is survived by his wife of fi ve years, Suzanne; step daughters, Vinnette Haycook and her husband Dennis of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and Jenna Thompson of Cape Canaveral, Florida; step-son Jeffry Thompson and his wife, Bonnie of Clermont; six step-grandchildren and fi ve step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Farrell. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Cornerstone Hospice of Lake County, Florida. ...
