Robert Glassman, 87, Succumbs at Home

Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral chapel in Livingston for Robert Martin Glassman, 87, of Livingston. Mr. Glassman died at home on August 4. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he majored in economics at Brooklyn College, graduating in 1948. He worked many jobs during his youth, including stints at the original Nathan's in Coney Island, as a Good Humor man and many summers at White Roe Lake Hotel in the Catskills, before starting his own business while still in college. He established a children's apparel business, which grew from a one-man operation to an organization with national distribution and more than 350 employees. He was president of the company until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Glassman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra, who worked beside him in the business. In addition, he is survived by three children, Andrew and his wife Jean Folsom; Peter; and Caryl and her husband, Thomas Donatucci; a sister, Beulah Laub and four grandchildren. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to either Brooklyn College, the Southern Poverty Law Center, or Doctors Without Borders. ...
