Memorial Mass For Joseph Arena

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on August 16 at St. David the King Catholic Church, Princeton Junction for Joseph F. Arena, 83, who died July 29. Born and raised in Newark, he entered the Navy during the Korean War. For several years, he sang on WOR radio. After the war, he worked in refrigeration repairs; but, eventually found a career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for more than 30 years before accepting a position with the Meadowlands Sports Complex as manager of its mail operations. After moving his family to Livingston, Mr. Arena became an active member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Roseland, where he sang in the choir and was the cantor for many years. He was also an active volunteer and fund-raiser with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, serving as president of the North Jersey chapter. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he ran many blood drives. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth; sons, Rocco, Joseph, Michael and Thomas; daughters-in-law, Nancy, Donna and Diana; and four granddaughters.
