Graveside Committal For Rita W.Y. Cook

Rita Weatherhead Young Cook died at the age of 101 on December 15 at her home. A graveside Presbyterian committal service was held, followed by a celebration of her life at her home. She and her late husband, Howard J. Young were residents of Livingston and the Oranges before moving to Lakewood and then to Brick Township, when Mr. Young died. She married H. Vincent Cook, who had been a resident of West Orange, late in life. In 1932, she joined her father, Herbert E. Weatherhead, as a fourth generation funeral director at the Weatherhead Funeral Home in Orange. In 1976, she became partners with her son, Gregory W. Young and founded the Weatherhead Young Funeral Home in Brick Township. She retired in 1986. A graduate of West Orange High School, Mrs. Cook was also a graduate of the McAllister College of Mortuary Science in New York City. She was a member of St. Cloud Presbyterian Church in West Orange, the West Orange Women's Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club of the Oranges. Mrs. Cook served on the board of the Orange YWCA, was a charter member and past president of the Soroptimist International of Suburban Essex and was a charter member of Lincoln Chapter No. 206 Order of the Eastern Star, as well as the Rhododendron Society of Cape Cod. In addition to her son, Gregory Young of Point Pleasant and his life partner Gina Stamatis, Mrs. Cook is survived by one grandson. ...
