Former Resident Dies in Hilton Head

Robert Stanley Gruchacz of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, formerly of Livingston, died on December 24 in Hilton Head Hospital. He was 85 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, December 30, in St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island. Mr. Gruchacz was born in Bloomfi eld to Stanley and Mae Zalenski Gruchacz. After graduating from Seton Hall University, he served as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. A certifi ed public accountant, he spent the majority of his career in corporate fi nance for Nabisco Inc. in New York City and East Hanover. He earned an M.B.A. from New York University and was graduated from the advanced management program at Harvard Business School in the fall of 1973. Mr. Gruchacz and his family began vacationing in Hilton Head in 1974, and he and his wife moved there following his retirement from Nabisco. There, he began a second career in real estate sales with the Dunes Marketing Group. Mr. Gruchacz was a member of Palmetto Hall Golf Club and a former member of Long Cove Club and Essex County Country Club in West Orange. Surviving Mr. Gruchacz are his wife of 57 years, LaVerne; three sons, Robert and his wife, Lisa, of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; Tom of Hilton Head Island; and Chris and his wife, Judy, of Pompano Beach, Florida; and five grandchildren. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Catholic School Tuition Assistance Fund, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. ...
