Services Tomorrow for Mrs. Hendershot

Funeral services for Christine (Joya) Hendershot, 66, will be held on Friday, January 23, at 10 a.m. in the LaMonica Memorial Home of Livingston. Mrs. Hendershot died on January 19 in Manor Care Health Services, Mountainside. Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Union before moving to Livingston 41 years ago. A graduate of Rutgers University with a BA degree in sociology, she earned a teaching certifi cate from Kean University and a master's degree in administration and supervision from New Jersey City University. Her career as an educator spanned 36 years with the Newark public schools, working as a teacher to vice principal. Among the schools at which she worked were the Chancellor Avenue and Peshine Avenue schools before her retirement in 2008. After retirement, she continued to work for the City of Newark. Mrs. Hendershot also taught ceramics to children and adults in Livingston, including classes in the Livingston Adult School. Predeceased by her father, Joseph Joya, Mrs. Hendershot is survived by her husband, Roger; a daughter, Tracy Monteiro and her husband, Paul; a son, Darren; her mother, Carmen Joya; two sisters, Deborah Moustakas and Arlene LaSalvia; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9950. ...
