Sr. M. Gilbert Frey, O.P. died at the age of 89 on Tuesday, February 3, at St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell. A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine of Siena Convent Chapel, Caldwell, on February 10. Born in Norwalk, Ohio, Sister Gilbert joined the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell on February 2, 1951 and professed vows on September 13, 1952. She earned a BA degree in education from Caldwell University and was an elementary school teacher at St. Philomena School in Livingston, Assumption BVM School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, St. Joseph School inUnion City, and St. Theresa School in Kenilworth. Sr. Gilbert spent most of her ministry at St. Michael's Parish in Union, serving from 1958and 1969 and again from 1977 to 2005, when she retired. Sister also served as both bursar and superior at St. Theresa Convent and St. Michael's Convent. Surviving are her sisters, Elizabeth Schaffer and Veronica Kluding.
