Reject the PARCC Test

Dear Editor, I want to commend the Livingston Board of Education and interim superintendent James O’Neill for supporting the students of this community (and their parents) by resolving to establish, in the Board’s words, “a sensible, fair, and child-centered set of protocols” for those children whose parents have refused permission for their children to take the statemandated, “high stakes” PARCC test. By doing so, the Board of Education rejected the harsh, punitive tactics threatened by other school districts, and instead demonstrated that it listened intently to parent and educator concerns about the PARCC test, both during Board meetings and during information sessions organized by parents. As a result, Livingston has become a leader for other districts to follow, as they are each and every day, by also establishing child-centered protocols. Mr. O’Neill, in particular, has been outspoken and unwavering in his commitment to the students of this community. To view more please log in or subscribe to the digital edition ...
