"THE BIGGEST WINNERS ARE THE KIDS,"

Said one principal when nine Livingston teachers, one for each school, were commended as Teachers of the Year from their respective schools. Each principal spoke briefl y about his or her honoree at the March 9 Board of Education meeting. Shown standing are Barbara Lombardo, Riker Hill media specialist ("she wears many hats"); Nancy Ciminnisi, Livingston High School music teacher ("upholds the district's excellent string program"); Cynthia Williams, Mt. Pleasant Elementary reading specialist ("helps the most vulnerable readers"); Laurie Bisconti, Heritage social studies teacher ("students hang on her every word"); Dorian Gemellaro, Burnet Hill fi fth grade teacher ("inspirational, inventive, a real 'gem' "); and Janine DeMarsico, Harrison Elementary special education teacher ("her children know they can do it"). Seated are Ginny (virginia) Ackerman, Collins ESL teacher ("so welcoming to new families"); Nancy Babey, Mt. Pleasant Middle art teacher ("student-focused and innovative"); and Jennifer Meglio, Hillside basic skills instructor ("excellent instructor and right hand"). Selected by a committee in each school, the teachers' years of service ranged from seven up to 36. One honoree, Ackerman, will retire at the end of the current school year.
