Youth Raises Funds To Help Disabled

Adam Levy, a sixth grader at Mt. Pleasant Middle School, has conducted a successful Mitzvah Project for his Bar Mitzvah. Through his hard work, 15 wheelchair accessible picnic tables are being built and installed at Camp ASCCA, a "special camp for children and adults." Located in Jackson Gap, Alabama, Camp ASCCA is the flagship recreational facility of Easter Seals, providing outdoor recreational opportunities for disabled people 365 days a year. Levy did more than simply raise money by going to friends and family. He learned that every letter written to a chairman of a publicly traded company must be answered. So he embarked on a major letter writing campaign, complete with photos of the camp. Craig Menear, chairman of Home Depot, responded, "We appreciate the services ASCCA is providing in the community and hope this will help to achieve your goals." The Home Depot Foundation donated a significant amount of building supplies and materials. Although the sixth grader has raised thousands of dollars to date for Camp ASCCA, he plans to raise more money as well as awareness of the disabled community in the months ahead. ...
