Alice Baldwin Strecker Dies in Lexington, Va.

Alice Baldwin Strecker, 84, of Lexington, Virginia died at her home on Saturday, July 25. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 31, at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Steve Cathcart officiating. Mrs. Strecker was born January 12, 1931, in Livingston, the daughter of the late Lewis L. and Ruth S. Baldwin. She grew up on the family dairy farm, Baldwin Mt. Pleasant Farm in Livingston, and attended Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, where she was a member of the graduating class of 1948. The following fall, she entered Endicott Junior College and was graduated in 1950. Following her employment with B. Altman & Co. from 1950 to 1953, Mrs. Strecker moved to New Brunswick, to serve as the assistant social director of the Student Center at Douglass College. She met and married Allen G. Strecker in 1954. In 1956, they moved to Woodstock, Virginia, where her husband was employed by Hidden River Hereford Farm as the farm manager. They lived in several Virginia towns, moving to Rockbridge County with four sons in 1964 when Mr. Strecker became the county extension agent. After the boys entered school, Mrs. Strecker started working for Kinnear-Mead (later known as Mead Associates) as a realtor and property manager, where she was employed from 1970 until her retirement in 2010. She was an active member of the Rockbridge Area Master Gardeners and served on the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce as well as serving as an active volunteer with Stonewall Jackson Auxiliary. A member of the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder and chairman of the compassion and fellowship committee. In addition to her husband of 60 years, Mrs. Strecker is survived by a brother, Lewis "Duke" Baldwin; sons, Allen (Kristen), Ronald (Teresa), Richard (Beth), and Martin (Rebecca); five grandsons and two granddaughters, four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice or Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. ...
