Joel Hemmendinger Dies Aug. 2, Age 90

Joel Hemmendinger of Hightstown, formerly of Livingston, died August 2 at the age of 90. Mr. Hemmendinger was born in Newark and lived in Livingston for 38 years, then in Monroe Township for 15 years. He attended Drew University, was graduated from Columbia University, and served as an officer in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a life insurance agent for Equitable Life, a chartered life underwriter (CLU), a chartered financial consultant (ChFC), and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Mr. Hemmendinger served as president of the Livingston Kiwanis Club, the Drew University Alumni Association, the Livingston Adult School, and the Livingston Welfare Board. After moving to Monroe Township in 1995, he was elected to three terms as a fire commissioner. Mr. Hemmendinger was predeceased by his first wife of 57 years, Helen Hemmendinger. He is survived by his wife, Adrienne Ament; three sons, John and his wife, Mary, of Mendham; Andy and his wife, Ida, of Arlington, Virginia; Eric and his wife, Lynn, of Mansfi eld, Massachusetts; his step-children, Robyn Marcinko and Valerie Wasserman; and six grandchildren. A celebration of Mr. Hemmendinger's life will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 2 p.m. at Meadow Lakes in Hightstown. Arrangements are under the direction of Riverside Memorial Chapels in Ewing.
