Hundreds of people, including newcomers and volunteers, attended the "Welcome to Livingston" event held at the Senior/Community Center this past Monday evening. Refreshments were served and representatives of many township organizations were on hand to offer information to new residents, and to answer their questions about life in Livingston. Shown here, Carrie Xiao’s family moved to Livingston from the San Francisco Bay area when her husband’s job relocated. “Livingston is really good,” she said. “We did thorough research. It has a great quality of life, education, and involvement. It is the best place to start our new life.” Her father, who is visiting from China, said it is “like living in a park.” Xiao is shown with sons Justin Yan, 7, and Jonathan Yan, 10, who attend Collins School. Also shown, after 28 years in Australia, Keith and Valerie Sentis became Livingston newcomers. “We went to Australia on a three-year business rotation, and never left,” Valerie said. Their two children were born there and now attend college in the United States. Keith has a brother in West Orange and said he is delighted to move close enough to be part of his family’s life on a daily basis. Originally from the United States, the Sentis couple agrees they are “confounded by snow” because winter in Sydney is about 65 degrees. Additionally, Jennifer Stein, with her children, Joseph and Leah, moved to Livingston from Jersey City. They like Livingston’s “good school system and family activities.” Joseph, a kindergartner at Hillside School, enjoys flag football, and the whole family takes note when deer visit their backyard. Being a Jewish-Puerto Rican family, Stein said, “We celebrate all holidays!” ...
