Funeral Mass Held For Guy Muoio

Gaetano "Guy" Muoio of Mantoloking, formerly of Livingston, died November 20 at the age of 85. A funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, November 24, at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church in Livingston, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Mr. Muoio was born in New York City, raised in Staten Island, and was graduated from City College of New York in 1952. Along with his wife, Mary, he founded GUYMAR Construction Company in Livingston in 1975. He lived in Livingston for 45 years before moving to Mantoloking in 2003. Mr. Muoio served in the Korean War and was involved with the Nike Missile Program during its infancy at the White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico. During his many years running GUYMAR Construction Company, Mr. Muoio was very active in professional industry associations. He was national president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), which is the leading non-profit trade association in the fi eld. As president and board member for ten years, he traveled extensively to the 75 chapters throughout the country. In addition, Mr. Muoio was board president of the West Essex Rehabilitation Center in Montclair, and was very active for several years in advocating for disabled citizens. He was a member of the Livingston chapter of the Knights of Columbus from 1955 to the present. He was also president of the Holy Name Society at Sacred Heart Church in Bay Head. In 2010, Mr. Muoio authored a book chronicling 100 years of his Italian immigrant family and their work together on the family farm in Staten Island. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary A. (Burns) Muoio; three sons and their wives, William and Mary Jo Muoio, Thomas and Courtney Muoio, and Kevin and Sarah Muoio; two daughters, Marianne Weber and her husband, Douglas, and Kathleen Muoio; a brother, Anthony Muoio; and a sister, Ellen Zoda. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one grandson-in-law, and one great-grandchild.
