Hold Service Fri. For Jayne G. Rode

Former Livingston resident Jayne G. Rode died January 3 at Manor Care in New Providence, from complications resulting from a fall. She was 93 years old. The former Jayne Glover Hill was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1922. Her mother, Levy Meeks Hill, was a radio singer, and her father, Paul Hill, a well known cattleman and rode impresario. Mrs. Rode attended public schools and studied acting before embarking on a varied career in modeling, sales, and secretarial work. She was briefly married during World War II to Igor Maslenikoff, a Russian-American cartoonist. In 1946, she married Erwin A. Rode of Tulare, California. The couple relocated to Queens, New York, and later to New Jersey. They lived in Roselle, then Livingston, before settling in Summit in 1958, where they remained for 44 years. In 2002, they moved to Chatham. Mrs. Rode was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit, where she served for many years on the social ministry committee. She helped resettle two Vietnamese families that were sponsored by the church. Predeceased by her husband, Erwin, in 2012, Mrs. Rode leaves two sons, Alan and his wife, Jemma, of Woodland Hills, California; and David and his partner, Norma Brice, of South Orange; a half-brother, Paul Hill of Santa Rosa, California; and one grandchild and three greatgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit on Friday, January 8, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by Bradley, Brough and Dangler, Summit.
