Barry Cohrs

Barry Cohrs, 83, formerly of Livingston passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in West Caldwell, NJ. Born in Orange, Barry resided in Livingston for most of his life. As a teen, he recalled hunting and exploring the woods in the Riker Hill section of town. A longtime member of St. Philomena’s parish, Barry served as an altar boy when St. Philomena’s was located at Northfield Center. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Irene Campbell, they lived in Orange and Cedar Grove for a few years before returning to Livingston in 1965 to raise their family. He continued to reside in Livingston until last year. A graduate of West Orange High School, Barry attended college at Newark College of Engineering. He was a corporal in the United States Army and was wounded twice while serving in Korea. He went on to serve in the Army Reserve before being honorably discharged in 1960. For many years, Barry was a Purchasing Director retiring from Mikropul Corporation. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, exploring Civil War battlefields, home improvement projects and spending time with his grandsons. One of his greatest joys was supporting and witnessing all three of his grandsons become Eagle Scouts. Above all else, he was devoted to his family. Married for 62 years, he is survived by his wife Irene; his son Steven Cohrs and his wife Peggy of Randolph; his daughter Cynthia Cohrs-Brandt and her husband Wayne Brandt of Livingston and three grandsons Matthew Cohrs, Thomas Cohrs and Robert Brandt. He is also survived by his sister MaryAnn Bohannan of Livingston, sister-in-law Janice Cohrs of Newton, brother-in-law William Campbell and his wife Lisa of Virginia and many nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. The funeral Mass will be offered today, Thursday, April 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barry’s name may be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad or to the Boy Scouts of America. ...
