Harvey William Cohen

Jan. 19, 1929 to April 2, 2016   Harvey W. Cohen died on Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2016, from natural causes. He was 87 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on January 19, 1929, to Charles and Ethel Cohen. He attended the City College of New York and following graduation served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Afterwards, he received his M.B.A. from New York University Business School. Harvey started work at the Square Electric Supply Company, an electrical wholesale business in Jersey City, N.J., which he ultimately bought and moved to Parsippany, N.J. He served on the Boards of Newark Academy and Crestmont Country Club. He felt a close connection to the State of Israel, which he visited on multiple occasions, and also was active with Congregation B'nai Jeshurun and the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rita F. Cohen. He leaves behind his children, Susan Cohen Pannullo and Jeffrey Cohen; his son-in-law, Joseph Pannullo; his daughters-in-law, Chris Meltzer Cohen and Michelle Cohen Samansky; his grandchildren, Joseph, Robert, Richard and Steven Pannullo; and grandchildren, Daniel, Amanda, and David Cohen; and his stepgrandchildren, Jake, Alex, Kayla, and Ashley Meltzer. Private funeral services and shiva were held on April 3.
