Gloria Dowd

Gloria C. Dowd, 84, of Livingston passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Ralph and Josephine DeMayo, Gloria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph P. Dowd; sisters Filomena DeMayo, Angelina Foecke and Laura DeMayo; grandson Kevin Newman, and son-in-law Thomas Newman. She is survived by her six loving children: Peter Dowd (Patricia), Mary Ellen Dowd, Cecilia Kwilos (Jerry), Monica Newman, Matthew Dowd (Jennifer) and Andrew Dowd (Christine). She also leaves behind 11 adoring grandchildren, and her dear sister Mary Patane. In addition to raising her six children, Gloria was an active parishioner at St. Philomena Church in Livingston for over 55 years, lending her beautiful soprano voice as a cantor, soloist and choir member for 42 of those years, as well as volunteering in the Rosary Altar Society. Gloria also sang with a number of community choruses, most recently The Concert Chorale of New Jersey. Gloria worked for the Township of Livingston Recreation Department for many years, and enjoyed bowling, swimming, gardening, exercising, and visiting with her children and grandchildren, especially “at the lake.” The funeral mass was held on Wednesday, December 27, at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Sharing Office at St. Philomena Church, or to the Carl G. Simon Cancer Center at Overlook Hospital.
