Coat Drive Continues While Weather is Wintry

Livingston resident Jeff “the Coat Guy” Friedman, founder and director of the Livingston Philanthropies, has reminded residents that the organization’s annual coat drive is continuing, as the weather remains wintry and cold. “Reviewing the weather forecast for Essex County, it calls for nighttime temperatures in the 30s,” Friedman said. “So, yes, it’s still coat and winter accessory weather. Even if the forecast were for temperatures into the 50s, would we be venturing out without a warm coat or jacket? I think not. Some out on the hard streets are freezing right now. Some hotels leave fully-stocked maid carts in the hallway to serve off-hour needs of their guests, providing a treasure trove for the homeless. I have personally utilized such opportunities quite successfully. Perhaps I’m planting a seed for our ever-mobile Livingston neighbors?” Friedman added, “Another fun idea is to go ‘Personal Shopping for the Homeless.’ With just about every coat on sale, it’s easy to shop in a store or online. Remember large and bigger men’s sizes, please. As Livingston Philanthropies enjoys reinforcing, ‘If you see something, buy something.’ ” In conclusion, Friedman said, “I like to share this quote from Homer: ‘The charity that is a trifle to us can be precious to others.’ Could he have ...
