Marilyn B. Chaiken (Barnhard) died in her Livingston home on Tuesday, March 6. She was 83. Born in Newark, Mrs. Chaiken attended Weequahic High School and Newark State Teachers’ College, now Kean University. She taught in Elizabeth, Kendall Park, and at the Millburn School for the Hearing Impaired. After retiring, she volunteered at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for many years. Mrs. Chaiken is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard; her daughter, Amy Wolffe (Elliott); her sister, Gladys Barnhard; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Mark; her brother Robert; and her sister, Belle Goldklang. A funeral service was held Sunday, March 11, at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel of Livingston. Interment took place in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made in Mrs. Chaiken’s name to Jespy House, 102 Prospect Street, South Orange, NJ;. 07079; or the Anti-Defamation League, 605 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10158.
