About three dozen parents and residents, and about a dozen school administrators, attended a School Safety Forum at Heritage Middle School on May 2 to learn about plans for school security. During the discussion, some parents suggested assigning armed police officers to the schools in the wake of recent shootings like the one at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida this past February.
“Our goal is to share the information we can share, make you feel a little more comfortable about some of the things we are doing, and answer questions,” school superintendent Chris Steffner said as she opened the forum.
