Private Services Held For Alan Harris, 94

Alan Harris of Hackettstown, formerly of Livingston, died July 4 at the age of 94. Born in East Orange, Mr. Harris had lived in Livingston, Bernardsville, and Basking Ridge before moving to Hackettstown in 2005. He was graduated from East Orange High School in 1941 and initially worked for the California Texas Oil Company in New York City. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in World War II as a staff sergeant with VMSB 331, 4th Marine Air Wing, in the South Central Pacific Theater. He was discharged in 1945. In 1948, he married Jean Taylor, who predeceased him in 2003 after 55 years of marriage. He worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in many sales roles, retiring as a regional manager of wholesale account commercial sales in 1983. Mr. Harris is survived by his three sons, Alan, and his wife, Dolores, of Bonita Springs, Florida; Andrew and his wife, Rosemary, of Colts Neck; and William and his wife, Patricia, of Gladstone; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his longtime friend, Andrea Rand. A private funeral service will be held by the family. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that contributions be made in Mr. Harris’ memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, www.mskcc.org.
