Edward A. McInroy

Edward A. McInroy, 93, of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018. He was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Elizabeth McInroy. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ed was a graduate of East Stroudsburg State University and later earned his M.S.Ed. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Ed was a lifelong educator, and began teaching in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and Rutherford, New Jersey. He then spent 32 years working for the Livingston Board of Education, first as a teacher and coach, and, later, as the athletic director and a coach for the district. Ed started the high school soccer program (girls’ and boys’), the golf team, and the driver’s education program. Among his many successful seasons as a coach, “Coach Mac” led the 1972 boys’ soccer team to Livingston High School’s first overall New Jersey State Championship and first undefeated season (20-0-0). In 1993, Ed was inducted into the Soccer Coaches’ Association of New Jersey Hall of Fame. Ed continued to be active in athletics long after his retirement, officiating soccer, basketball, softball, and baseball games throughout the state. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; two sisters, Miriam Medaris and Sara Sutcliffe; and his son-in-law, Jon Rottenberg. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Rottenberg, and his son, Kevin McInroy and his wife, Wei Sa; his grandchildren, Jenna, A.J., and Sam Rottenberg, and Kara McInroy; and his brother, Dr. Robert McInroy and his wife, Ann. Ed also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and close friends. Visitation was held yesterday, Wednesday, July 25, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, New Jersey. The funeral Mass will be today, Thursday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, 386 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name to SAGE Eldercare, sageeldercare.org, would be greatly appreciated. ...
