Dorothy Howland

Dorothy Anne Howland, 86, of Livingston, died on August 27, 2018. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation today, Thursday, August 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, New Jersey 07068. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, August 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston with entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Born in Newark, Mrs. Howland grew up in Verona and settled in Livingston in 1961. She graduated from Mount St. Dominic Academy in 1950 and went on to the St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement, she was the baker in the cafeteria at West Essex High School. In her spare time, she volunteered to drive for the St. Catherine Health Care Center of the Dominican Sisters in Caldwell. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Philomena’s Church and enjoyed knitting. Mrs. Howland was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Margaret Prew; her son, Eugene Howland, Jr.; and her siblings, Margaret Honstein and John Prew. Surviving is her beloved husband, Eugene Howland, Sr; devoted daughters, Betty Howland and Margie Feola and her husband Tom; cherished grandchildren, Jack and Caroline; and loving sister, Sr. Rosalie Prew. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Catherine Health Care Center, 7 Ryerson Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006.
