Interim Superintendent Addresses Social Media, Meeting Practices

Interim superintendent of schools James O’Neill opened the Board of Education meeting on September 5 with a prepared statement about conduct and practices at Board meetings, “to help ensure that we have appropriate tone of the meeting going forward.” He also addressed the issue of responding to social media posts. For the first time, this meeting agenda included a reminder about the district’s policies about civility and recording of Board meetings. Also for the first time, announced Pam Chirls, president of the school board, cameras had been installed and were recording the meeting. The district would make the tape available within 72 hours, or three business days, she said.
