Board Hears Plans for Solar Panel Array; Applicant to Return with Amended Plan

At its meeting on Tuesday evening, the Livingston Zoning Board of Adjustment heard plans for a residential solar energy system on West Northfield Road, but suggested the applicant return at a later date with amended plans. In his original application, David Sloan requested two variances in his application to install a solar energy system in the front yard of his home at 324 West Northfield Road. The system would include ground-mounted solar panels and a 10.26 kilowatt ground mounted photo-voltaic (PV) system for onsite electrical consumption. He asked for a variance to permit an accessory building in the front yard, where such buildings are, by township ordinances, permitted only in the rear yard; and a variance from an ordinance requiring that ground-mounted small solar energy systems must be installed in a fenced rear yard only. In addition, it was determined that an additional variance for fencing would have been needed.
