Snowstorm Paralyzes Township, and Much of State

A snowstorm that turned to sleet after dropping seven inches on Livingston succeeded in paralyzing the town – and much of the state, particularly the northern portion of it – on Thursday afternoon and evening, November 15. Heavy, fast-falling snow and slick conditions exacerbated by inability to get plows through created a traffic nightmare. Commuters trying to get home reported spending up to eight hours or more in their cars, as portions of major highways were closed at various times during the evening, including Route 280, Route 80, and Route 10. Schools were not dismissed early, and school buses entered the traffic stream just as most area businesses were sending their employees home, making for heavierthan- usual volume on the roads when conditions were worsening.
