Funeral Held Wed. For Jack L. Atkins

Former Livingston resident Jack L. Atkins died Monday, March 18, at his home in Springfield. He was 70 years old. Mr. Atkins grew up in Fair Lawn and Livingston. He attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He resided in Short Hills for 30 years before moving to Springfield in 2013. After graduation, he joined his father in the real estate business which, after his brothers joined the firm, became TheAtkins Companies, a real-estate development and management firm headquartered in West Orange. Mr. Atkins was a principal in the firm until his death. Mr. Atkins is survived by his father, Steve; his wife of 36 years, Melanie; three children, Doug, Scott (Carly), and Kim; three brothers, Dick (Joanna), Chick (Ellen) and Bob (Lisa); and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held yesterday, Wednesday, March 20, at Temple Sharey-Tefilo Israel in South Orange. The family has suggested that donations be made in Mr. Atkins’ name to the RWJBarnabas Health Hospice Service at rwjbh.org/giving. Livingston is named in honor of William Livingston, the first governor of New Jersey, who served from 1776 to 1790. ...
