Melvin Stempler Dies in Florida

Melvin “Mel” Stempler, a longtime Livingston resident, died on Monday, July 29, in his Aventura, Florida home. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Sondra; son, Larry (Gina); daughter, Cindy; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Stempler was born on November 12, 1928, in Newark. He graduated fromWeequahic High School in 1946. He owned and operated Stempler’s Drapery and Carpeting with his brothers in Newark and Hillside, which was a family-owned business established by his father in 1910. A funeral is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, August 1, at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman in Livingston. Contributions may be made in Mr. Stempler’s honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation. ...
