Editor’s Note: This week, Jeff Friedman, founder and director of Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI), explains, in his own words, how a GoFundMe page has been set up to help finance the purchase of a vehicle for LPI.     •    •    • I’m thrilled to announce that Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) has just gone live with a GoFundMe page to help fund a badly needed vehicle. The GoFundMe address is https://www.gofundme.com/f/vehicle-to-serve-the-homeless-amp-profoundly-poor. I made a donation after creation, and found the donation process to be seamless. Livingston Philanthropies is in the middle of its Vehicle Fundraising Initiative. As regular Tribune readers know, LPI continues to operate with volunteer cars and SUVs. The volume of Livingston’s generous donations caused us to outgrow private vehicles a long time ago. Now, the situation is dire – LPI needs a dedicated vehicle immediately. That’s why we are asking Livingston residents and charitable organizations to help us fund one. Paul Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates, said it best in his “Giving Pledge Letter” when he wrote, “I believe that those fortunate to achieve great wealth should put it to work for the good of humanity. Our net worth is ultimately defined not by dollars, but rather, by how well we serve others.” I’ll go on record as saying the late Mr. Allen was a pretty smart guy. To put Paul Allen’s strategic thinking to work right here in Livingston, please use our convenient GoFundMe page, mail generous donations to LPI, P.O. Box 247, Livingston, NJ 07039, or partner directly with a contribution on Paypal at paypal.me/lpinj. Please send me an email at njhomeless.org to discuss, schedule a private meeting or arrange for my in-person, LPI presentation to your civic, religious or educational organization. Fur Sale to Benefit Homeless LPI is also announcing that our “Fur & Leather Extravaganza” sale is now scheduled for Saturday, October 26, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at LPI World Headquarters (a.k.a. my garage). The address will be shared next week. We have beautiful garments on hangers ready for shopping and continue to ask for unneeded fur and leather coats and jackets. Please consider helping the profoundly poor with your old fur and leather garments. Donations may be dropped at the offices of the West Essex Tribune, located at 495 South Livingston Avenue, next to Shop Rite.
