Gerard (Jerry) Simons, 87, of Somerset, New Jersey, died peacefully at home Tuesday, December 24, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry resided in Livingston for 38 years. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Straus); his children, Brian and Keith Simons; Kerri (Paul) McDonough; Stu Straus; and Lisa (David) Rose; his grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Alicia) Simons, Kevin, Chad, and Rachel Simons, Drew McDonough,Alyson (Sean) Clayton, Jamie Straus, and Rylee and Alani Rose; his great-granddaughter, Hazel Jeanne Simons; and his brother, Joseph (Sandy) Simons. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Jeanne Simons. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy and the Marines during the Occupation of Japan and the Korean Conflict, for which he received a Purple Heart. He was a Detective for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI Strike Force during his employment. He ended his career as safety vice president of Tully Construction, Queens, New York. Jerry was a lifetime member of the Livingston VFW Post and the recipient of many service medals. AMemorial Gathering was held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. Cremation was private.
