Alfred J. Stanaway, 77, of Livingston died on April 9. Born in Jersey City to Alfred Stanaway, Sr. and Mary (Carugan) Salmini, he lived in Bayonne before moving to Livingston in 1972.
Mr. Stanaway was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard. He started his professional career in 1961, setting up Ford Motor Company’s first leasing program and then worked for 3M Microfilm. He co-created M.I.S. (Microfilm Identification System); ran Honey Bee, a health food store in Millburn; and owned various car wash businesses. He raised money for pediatric cancer through Hugs for Brady, and was a Man of the Year for the Rainbow Foundation of New Monmouth.
He was the husband of 55 years to Carole (nee Regan); the father of Brian and his wife, Nicole, Joan, and Jason and his wife Andrea; and the grandfather of seven. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Anne Marie Lauten, Thomas Stanaway and Mary Stanaway. He is survived by William Stanaway and Loretta Stanaway; his brother-in-law, Michael Regan and his wife, Diane; and his sister-in-law, Janet and her husband Andrew Wojturski.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 22, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A memorial Mass and celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
