Theresa J. Del Tufo

Theresa J. Del Tufo (née Melchionne), 91, passed away at home after a brief illness with family at her side on September 12, 2020 in Livingston, New Jersey. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Theresa was a graduate of Battin High School and attended Kean College. As a young woman, she worked for the Simmons Company in Elizabeth. Moving to Livingston in 1959, she spent much of her life there raising her family. After her youngest son was in elementary school, she joined the staff at St. Philomena School (later Aquinas Academy) in Livingston and spent many years as the resource room teacher, helping students improve their reading skills. Theresa was an active member of the St. Philomena Parish Community, participating in the Rosary Society and crocheting baby Baptism bibs, as well as the Livingston Women’s Club, where she served as the corresponding secretary for more than a decade. No matter when volunteers were needed, she was always there to lend a helping hand. She was predeceased by her lov She was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Anthony F., and her oldest son, Anthony J. Affectionately known as “Grandma,” she is survived by her children, Lucille and her husband, Jim; Frank and his wife, Cathy; and Michael; along with her grandchildren, James, Andrew, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Kelly, who cherished and adored her; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Ryan, and Natalie. Theresa also leaves a sister, Frances; many nieces and nephews; and a beloved group of dear friends from St. Philomena’s Church and the Livingston Women’s Club. She loved spending time with She loved spending time with family and friends and left them with wonderful memories. She will also be remembered for the many varieties of delicious Christmas cookies that she baked every year. Private services were held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, with burial at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover. A memorial Mass in celebration of Theresa’s life will be held at a later date when family and friends can travel safely and gather together.
