I have been privileged to summarize Livingston’s extreme generosity each week here in the West Essex Tribune. The Tribune has partnered with Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) from the beginning. This fall, we begin our eighth year of service “providing for the poor, homeless and disenfranchised.” And, we are as local as local can be.

New Police Chief Ready for the Role

Article Image Alt Text

On Tuesday, September 4, Livingston Police Department’s acting Chief Gary Marshuetz will be sworn in as the township’s newest chief. The appointment is somewhat ceremonial, as he will technically drop the “acting” in his title on September 1 and he has been assuming the duties of chief for several months. Nonetheless, it is the culmination of nearly three decades of service in Livingston’s police force.

Prior to the ceremony, Marshuetz sat down with the Tribune to reflect on his nearly 30 years on the job and what he hopes to accomplish moving forward.

Jeff Lake Camp “Stuffs the Bus” for CHOW

Article Image Alt Text

Jeff Lake Camp (JLC) on August 2 celebrated its fifth year donating nonperishable food and household supplies to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW), a project of Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors (LNHN), as part of its Jeff Lake Gives Back program.

CHOW serves as a resource for more than 35 local families, including families with children, as well as seniors living independently, and CHOW personnel were “thrilled” to partner with JLC once again. “Jeff LakesCamp has been a long-time supporter of our pantry and has steadily increased its donation size year over year,” said Stacey Rubinstein, LNHN president and board member. “However, this year, their fifth year of participation, was one for the books, with the donation size doubling. Our driver, Nick Santinelli, had to make two round trip visits to the camp. We were speechless and, in typical Nick style, he was thrilled.”
