Ralph D’Addario Dies at Age 92

RalphAnthony D’Addario of Livingston died on Thursday October 12. He was 92 years old.

Mr. D’Addario was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn and his son Michael. He is survived by his daughters Angela and Susan; his granddaughters Courtney and Sabrina; and his nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A visitation was held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home and a mass for the burial was held at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Roseland.

Donations in Mr. D’Addario’s honor can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Make A Wish Foundation.

Gail Susan Kleinman

Gail Susan Kleinman was born in New York City on March 21, 1949, the daughter of Anne and Bertrand Rotberg and died on October 14, 2023.

The former Livingston resident married Max Kleinman 50 years ago and was the proud mother of Beth Fleischer and her husband Brian; Howard Kleinman and his wife, Alicia; and grandmother to Marlee and Xander Fleischer.

She was a well-respected psychotherapist and psychoanalyst and on the faculty of the Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Study of New Jersey.

She chaired the Business and Professional Division of Women’s Philanthropy for UJA and served on its board, as well as the Jewish Federation’s Board of Trustees.

AtAgudath Israel Congregation, she served on its Board and chaired its Interfaith Committee, sponsoring dozens of programs promoting interfaith understanding among Jews, Muslims, and Christians. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and the Lester Society of the Jewish Foundation of MetroWest.

Services Held Oct. 18 For John D. Schupper

JohnD. Schupper of West Orange, formerly of Livingston, died Tuesday, October 17.Hewas 79yearsold.

Mr. Schupper grew up in West Orange and attended West Orange High School. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and valedictorian of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, as well as editor-in-chief of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Following law school, he served as a law clerk for Chief Justice Joseph Weintraub of the New Jersey Supreme Court. He then began his corporate law career at the law firm known as Lowenstein, Sandler. He joined the single-office Newark firm as its i f th lawyer in 1969 and retired from practice in 2013 by which time he had helped the firm grow to include over 250 lawyers working from several offices around the country.

He and his wife, Linda, raised their children in Livingston and then moved back to West Orange, spending winters in Naples, Florida.

Rosa Velella Dies at 96

Rosa C. Velella, 96, died on Thursday, October 5. Born in Newark, Rosa resided in Livingston for most of her life.

Mrs. Velella worked on the township’s Election Board, was a communicant of St. Raphael’s Church, and was a member of the AARP Livingtones.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Velella Sr., and her son John Velella Jr. Mrs. Velella is survived by her children, Tamra Cotugno and Ronald Velella; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Sunday, October 8, at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held on Monday, October 9 at St. Raphael’s Church, with interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Services Held For Maurice J. Anderson

Maurice J. Anderson died on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Spring Hills-Livingston. He moved to Livingston in February 2023 from Cherry Hill.

He was a USAir Force Lieutenant Colonel for 20 years and a rehabilitation counselor in the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in Camden.

Col. Anderson was predeceased by his wife, Beverly. He is survived by his daughters, Jana and Sherri; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Luke’s Episocopal Church in Montclair on Tuesday, October 3, with a celebration of life service afterwards. Internment with a military honor guard was held at Locustwood Memorial Park.

Donations in Col. Anderson’s name can be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church in Cherry Hill, and Toni’s Kitchen at St. Luke’s Episocopal Church in Montclair.

Vincent L. D’Antonio

Vincent L. D’Antonio, age 74, passed away on September 23 in Vacaville, California.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philomena Church, on Tuesday, October 10, at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.

Vincent was born in Newark and was a California resident for the last 50 years.

Vincent graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with a bachelor of arts degree, and the University of California at Davis with a master of arts degree.

He worked as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in Jamaica after college. He held positions as a research scientist and a plant geneticist before settling at the University of California Davis, where he was a manager for the California Celery Growers Association for 30 years.

He loved sports and was an avid, lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.

Vincent was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend.

Memorial Service For Norman Shaw

Norman Shaw, 91, of Livingston, died on Sunday, October 1.

Mr. Shaw served in the United States Army, and worked at the McLaughlin and Stern Law firm in New York City.

He is survived by his spouse, Gail Shaw; his children, Elissa Caterfino Mandel and Laura Shaw; as well as six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel.

Memorial donations in Mr. Shaw’s memory can be made to the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, Teaching Kids About the Law, or the Southern Poverty Law Center.
