Deacon Joseph R. Francione

Deacon Joseph R. Francione, 76, of Livingston, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Livingston, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Vincent and Adelina Francione, Joseph resided in Livingston for the past 45 years. Joseph was a proud and loyal parishioner and deacon at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston for 30 years. He worked for 25 years in interior design for Kleinfeld’s in Brooklyn, NY, and for Abraham and Strauss. He later worked as a salesman and buyer for Levitz Furniture. Joseph was predeceased by his dear son, David. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elaine (nee Passanante). He is also survived by his son, Kevin, and his wife, Cheryl; his daughter-in-law, Susan; his adoring grandchildren, Jesse, Kayla, Joseph, and Nicholas; his sister, Johanna LaMonica; his brother-in-law, Dennis Passanante, and his wife, Jennifer; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral Services Held For Kathleen Saratella

Kathleen “Kathy” (neé Marano) Saratella, 68, died on Monday, February 5, at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. She was born in Aberdeen, Washington, grew up in the Ironbound section of Newark, and lived in Harrison before moving to Livingston in 1990. Mrs. Saratella taught at Hawkins Street School in Newark for 35 years, retiring in 2003. She was the wife of Carl Victor Saratella; the daughter of Albert Marano and the late Joan (neé Rizzo); the mother of Victor Saratella of Needham, Massachusetts and Carla Michele Saratella; the sister of the late Karen Cifuentes and her husband, Renato; the sister-in-law of Rose Teixeira and her husband, Mario; and the grandmother of four. A Funeral Mass was held on February 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Newark. The family suggests that donations be made to the church, 259 Oliver Street, Newark, NJ 07105, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.

Stanley Moldawsky, Ph.D.

Stanley Moldawsky, Ph.D., age 92, of Livingston, NJ, died on February 9, 2018 surrounded by his family in Haverford, PA. Born in Newark, NJ on May 30, 1925, Stan was the only child of Isidor and Bella Moldawsky. He grew up in Manhattan and attended the Bronx High School of Science. He served in the Navy during World War II, and attended college at the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern. He received his PhD from the University of Iowa in 1951. He was in private practice for 60 years and, after helping to create the Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology in 1974, he served as a visiting professor there until 1988, teaching psychoanalytic therapy and conducting supervision.

Gersun Zevi Chin

Gersun Zevi Chin passed away on February 5, 2018. He was the loving husband of Sandra Chin (nee Len); beloved father of Bernadine (Stuart) Zissu and Gregory Chin; dear brother of Beulah Miller, Marianne Davidow, and Edwin Nathan Chin; cherished grandfather of Zoe Chin, Sean Zissu, Ruby Chin, Justin Zissu, and Izzy Chin; and adored son of the late Joseph and Yetta Chin. Services were held at SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC., Pikesville, Maryland on Tuesday, February 6, at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Beth Tfiloh Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Services Held Feb. 2 For Norma D. Greene

Norma Diana Greene died in her Livingston home on January 31. She was 79 years old. Services were held on Friday, February 2, at the Bernheim-Apter- Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Greene attended Midwood High School and the University of Michigan, from which she graduated in 1959 with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She was an employee of the West Orange school district for decades, teaching at both Gregory Elementary School and Roosevelt Middle School. After her retirement from teaching, she supervised student teachers at Caldwell University. Mrs. Greene is survived by her husband of 56 years, Leonard; her daughter, Jennifer (Dan); her son, Peter (Susan); and four grandchildren. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to CASANA (the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America) and the Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

Private Services For John Sirabian

John Sirabian of Livingston died Friday, February 2, at the age of 88. Funeral services will be conducted privately under the direction of the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Born in New York City, Mr. Sirabian served in the U.S. Army in the 15th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. He was a member of the local VFW, and an active member of St. Mary’s Armenian Church in Livingston for over 50 years. Mr. Sirabian was the founder and co-owner of Camatron Sewing Machine, Inc. in New York City. Predeceased by his wife, Alice Sirabian, he is survived by his children, Barbara Sarajian and her husband, Gregory, and Richard Sirabian and his wife, Erika; and five grandchildren.

Helen August

Helen August passed away at home in Livingston on Saturday, February 3, near her 99th birthday. She was born on Eldridge Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on March 2, 1919, to Charles and Rebeccah Friedman, and attended high school in Brooklyn. On February 12, 1938 she married Max August and together they had three children. Helen raised her family in Merrick, New York, where she was president of Hadassah. As a teen, she sang on her own radio show and also with Rudy Valee. She helped her husband in his New York City restaurant, Ronall, and went back to school to become an interior decorator. When Helen moved to Livingston in 2014 to live with her son and daughter-in-law she became active in the Margulies Senior Center at the JCC. Four days a week she looked forward to riding the Livingston Senior Citizen bus to meet at the JCC with her new friends. Helen is survived by her daughter, Ronny Mehrberg (Morty); her son, Buddy (Eileen); and Jane August.

Funeral Services For Grace DuBoyce

Grace Pompei DuBoyce died at CareOne in Livingston on February 4. She was 94 years old. A celebration of her life will be held today, Thursday, February 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with an 8:30 p.m. funeral service at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road, Chester. An 11 a.m. entombment service will take place on Friday, February 9, at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. Mr. DuBoyce was born October 12, 1923, in Newark. She grew up in Bloomfield, and lived in Florham Park for 60 years before spending the last year in Livingston. She was a retired secretary for Electrolux in Union, and previously owned a hair salon in Madison. Mrs. DuBoyce is survived by her husband of 30 years, Edward DuBoyce; her daughters, Claire Pompei and her wife, Dolores Yurkovic; Janice Cordileone and her husband, Anthony; and Deborah Corvasce and her husband, Jerry; her brother, Jerry Fontanazza; her sister-in-law, Mary Alice Coelho; and five grandchildren.

Harriet Hiller

Harriet Hiller, age 95, died on February 1, 2018 at her home of the past 60 years in Livingston, NJ. Born in New York City in 1922, she graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx, ranking fifth of 900 students. She went on to Bernard Baruch College as one of only 75 women city-wide invited to attend, graduating cum laude and as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. She financed her education working weekends as a professional Flamenco dancer, performing on Broadway with José Greco and at nightclubs in Greenwich Village. Thereafter, she held supervisory positions at a publisher of scientific textbooks and treatises. Harriet is best known locally for her passionate support of the Livingston Arts Association, for which she served as presiding officer and director of activities for almost 30 years.

Edwin L. Kalmore

Edwin Louis Kalmore, formerly of Livingston, NJ, died January 28, 2018 in Monroe Township, NJ. Funeral services were held on January 29, 2018 at Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union, NJ. Interment followed at Mount Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Kalmore resided in Livingston, NJ for 32 years before moving to Monroe Township, NJ in 1998. Mr. Kalmore received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the New York University School of Commerce in 1949. He became a certified public accountant licensed to practice in the State of New York. He was a member of both the New York State Society of Certifi ed Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to his retirement, he was a partner with the accounting firm of Wolf and Schulman, formerly of New York City. A veteran who served in the United States Army during World War II, Mr. Kalmore was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant following service in Japan.
