Funeral Mass Was Held For Ronald Gasparinetti

Ronald F. Gasparinetti, 80, of Livingston, died on October 21.

Services were held at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, followed by Mass at St. Lucy’s Church, Newark. Cremation was private.

Born in Newark to the late Louis and Rose Gasparinetti, Mr. Gasparinetti lived in Edison before settling in Livingston.

Prior to retiring, he was a detective with the Newark Police Department. For 12 years, he served as president of the Newark Policeman’s Benevolent Association. He taught in the police academy, led several associations, and received a number of professional awards.

In his youth, Mr. Gasparinetti played in several semi-pro football teams, including the Newark Bears and Jersey City Jays (later named the Jets).

Services Were Held For Lenny Garrett, 85

Lenny Garrett, who lived in Livingston for 35 years, died on Tuesday, October 8. He moved to Jackson 12 years ago.

Born and raised in Newark, Lenny attended the Manhattan School of Music. He ran Harry Gross and Sons Beauty Supply with his father-in-law and then opened Things of Beauty at several locations. He also owed and operated Leness Beauty Supply in Livingston.

Mr. Garrett was the husband of the late Essie for 54 years; the father of Hildy and Michael, Nancy and Eric, and Caryn and Frank, grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of one. He was also the brother of Bobbi and Rich, and partner of Natalie Bindler.

Services were held on October 10, with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Funeral Chapel. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.

Private Service Held For Doris Goldman, 97

Doris Goldman died on Monday, October 28. She grew up in Irvington and lived in Newark, Maplewood, Livingston, and Verona.

Mrs. Goldman graduated from the Rutgers College of Pharmacy in 1942, where she met her late husband, Sidney Goldman. They married in 1944 and co-owned Orange Drugs, and later built PIC Corporation, an insecticide company.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Goldman was predeceased by her sister, Libby Wolff, and her brother, Lou Kaye. She is survived by her daughters, Lois (Frank) Dyer, and Phyllis (Allen) Rubel; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Private graveside family services were held. Shiva will continue today, Thursday, October 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with a minyan at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or other charity of choice.

Dr. Edmund Speidell Was Buried Privately

Dr. Edmund Speidell was born on June 4, 1933 and died on Saturday, October 19. He graduated from Millburn High School, Williams College and George Washington University School of Medicine.

Dr. Speidell served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Vietnam era, and then returned to his internal medicine practice with Dr. Kevin Leen in Livingston.

He was pre-deceased by his parents; his older brother, the Rev. Henry Speidell; and his sisters-in-law, Ruth and Bonnie Speidell. He is survived by his three younger brothers, Walter Speidell (Phyllis), Richard Speidell (Gayle), and Paul Speidell (Mary).

Arrangements were by the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, 194 Route 10 West, East Hanover, New Jersey, 07936.

Visitation Sunday For Dr. Speidell

Dr. Edmund A. Speidell of Livingston died Saturday, October 19, in Livingston. He was 86 years old. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. Burial will be private. Dr. Speidell worked at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for many years.

Services Were Held For Julius Eagle, 95

Julius Isadore Eagle died on Thursday, September 26, at home. He was born and raised in Newark’s Weequahic section and resided in Livingston for the last 53 years.

Predeceased by his wife, Betty, in 2015, Mr. Eagle is survived by his daughter, Debbie, his son, Gary, and two grandsons.

A graveside service was held on September 27, with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel.

Contributions in Mr. Eagle’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Hold Services Today For Ken Lieberman, 64

Services will be held today, Thursday October 24, for Kenneth Lieberman of Livingston, who died on October 21. The service will take place at 10 a.m. at the BernheimApter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston. Interment will be in Beth El Cemetery in Paramus.

Mr. Lieberman had been a senior director of human resources and served on several boards, including the March of Dimes, Carrier Clinic, and Temple Emanu-El. He was a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Executive Leadership.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Mance) Lieberman; his daughters, Jessica and Rachel; and his siblings, Robert Lieberman and Bonnie Lieberman Czukoski.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

John Velella Jr., 66, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Livingston, died on Wednesday, October 16. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Raphael Church in Livingston.
