“Billy” Short Dies at Age 61

William “Billy” F. Short, Jr., 61, of Morristown died Friday, June 19. His life was celebrated by immediate family at a service on Tuesday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester. Mr. Short, born in Newark to the late William and Edna Short, grew up in Livingston, where he attended Livingston High School. He lived in Morristown for many years and was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Morristown, where he contributed to several Bible study groups. Mr. Short, who was a skilled musician and played the guitar, piano, and accordion, is survived by three brothers, Barry of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Ken of Long Valley; and Bob of Chatham. Memorial donations can be made to the Market Street Mission (www.marketstreet.org) in Morristown.

Frank Raffa, 85, Succumbs at Home

Frank Salvatore Raffa, 85, died at his residence in Livingston on Friday, June 19. The Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston on Tuesday. Mr. Raffa was born in Newark and had lived in Vailsburg before moving to Livingston 35 years ago. He was a transit bus maintenance worker for many years. Predeceased by his wife, Angela R., his siblings Anna Martinis, Joseph and Paul Raffa, Mr. Raffa is survived by his daughters, Rosanne Brodsky and her husband, Larry; Angela Balestrieri and her husband, Frank; and Sandra Doblovosky and her husband. Eddie; and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, Maryland 21741-5018.

Marcella L. Mucci, 86, of Livingston, formerly of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, died in her home on Tuesday, June 16. A Funeral Mass will be held today, Thursday, June 25, at 10 a.m. in St. Philomena's Church, Livingston. Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Albert R. Mucci, Mrs. Mucci is survived by three daughters, Marlane, Teresa and Celeste; a son-in-law, Robert; fi ve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass To Be Held For Tevlin

A Mass, in memory of Brendan Tevlin, will be held today, Thursday, June 25, at 8:30 a.m., at St. Philomena's Church. The Mass marks the first anniversary of his death. Tevlin's death made national headlines last year after he was murdered at the age of 19 in West Orange.

Funeral Service Held For Joan Pence, 91

Livingston resident Joan Pence died at the age of 91 on June 8 after a brief illness. Born in Boston, Massachusetts Mrs. Pence lived in New Jersey and in Livingston most of her life. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Reed Pence; son, Ron and his wife, Diane, of Davie, Florida; daughter, Carol Prewitt, of Hazlet; son, Gary Pence, and his wife, Anna, of Bridgewater; daughter, Cheryl Satarino, and her husband, Tom, of Carmel, Indiana; son, Greg Pence, and his longtime companion, Delia Lombardo, of Morris Plains; and daughter, Darlene DeDominicis of Wilmington, Delaware. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Flowers may be send to the Dangler Funeral Home and memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Deborah Monaco Succumbs to Cancer

Deborah L. McCaffery Monaco, 57, died Sunday at VNA Hospice after a long battle with lung cancer. Born in Newark, she was raised in Livingston before moving to Scranton, Pennsylvania. The daughter of Joyce Speenburgh McCaffery and the late Hugh McCaffery, Mrs. Monaco was a graduate of Livingston High School. She is survived by her husband, Mark Monaco; a son, Matthew of Scranton; a daughter, Kimberly of Lebanon; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Tommy and Michael McCaffery. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McCaffery. A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, June 18, in the Davies & Jones Funeral Chapel, Scranton.

Funeral Services For Samuel penn

Samuel Penn of Livingston died at the age of 89 on June 15. Services were held on Tuesday, June 16, at Bernheim Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel. Following Mr. Penn's service as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, he was graduated from New York University on the GI Bill. He began his career as an insurance underwriter. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rochelle; his son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Donna Penn; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gary Titunick; and by his two granddaughters. The family will be sitting Shiva at the Titunick's house through Sunday, June 21. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad.

Private Service For Nancy Gesek

Nancy E. Gesek, 71, died on Thursday, June 4, in Livingston. Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 9, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. Cremation will be private. Born in Morristown, Mrs. Gesek resided in Livingston for the past 35 years, where she was a member of the Women's Club in town. She was a home economics teacher for the Irvington Public Schools for 35 years, and the past president of the IEA. Mrs. Gesek was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and her brother Ronald Bergman. She leaves behind her sons, Michael and Matthew, and his fi ancé, Kaity. In lieu of fl owers, donations in Mrs. Gesek's name may be made to the American Heart Association.
