FOOTBALL TEAM PRACTICE: The Livingston High School football team is preparing for the upcoming season with daily practices on the turf. The Lancers travel to Westfield for a ninth grade scrimmage on Saturday, August 20, with kick-off slated for 9 a.m. The Lancers host Morristown in the season opener on Friday evening, August 26, with a 6:30 p.m. starting time. In keeping with an annual tradition, members of the Livingston Cycle Club recently completed their" Tour du Shore" a 100 mile ride from Livingston Monmouth Beach

Former Livingston resident Danielle SchwartzAuerbach won two gold medals for tennis at the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

The Maccabiah Games featured 10,000 Jewish athletes from 60 countries participating in 42 different sports. President Joe Biden attended the opening ceremony.

Schwartz Auerbach represented Team USA and won the gold medals in singles and mixed doubles.

“At the awards ceremony, hearing my name called out twice as a gold medal winner from the United States of America made my heart overflow with such great happiness and pride,” Schwartz Auerbach said.

She began playing tennis at the age of five.

“I was watching my older brother and sister taking a tennis lesson, and I ran onto the court, took one of their rackets and started hitting the ball,” SchwartzAuerbach said. “The coach couldn’t believe that I could hit the ball over the net. I started taking lessons from that day on.”

The Livingston Old Guard has resumed many of its pre-pandemic activities, including bocce, poker, bridge, golf, and bowling.

Recently, members went to a practice session of the New York Giants football team. The team had made free tickets available, and the general public had the opportunity to meet and greet players, get autographs, and receive giveaways. Old Guard member Martin Steinman said, “I enjoyed getting an early look at the team. There was a huge crowd, but people were congenial. There was no jockeying to get ahead in line, and people helped us find seats in the crowded stands. There was a mix of all ages, from many youngsters to seniors.”

Member Joel Lightner said, “I had a blast at the first day of football camp. It was great to see all the players and new coaches up close and personal. The players didn’t look like it was the first day of camp, so there is good reasons to hope for a better year for the Giants in 2022!”
