Girls’ Tennis Team Wins Sectional Title

The Livingston High School girls’s varsity tennis team won its first State Sectional Championship in seven years with a 3-2 win over rival Ridgewood at the Memorial ParkTennis Courts.The Lancers were last crowned sectional champions in 2012.

Unfortunately, in the state finals, the Lancers fell to East Brunswick, 3-2.

The North I, Group IV Sectional Championship was won by Ridgewood in five of the last six years, while Morristown was the 2016 sectional champion.

FRIDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS: The Livingston High School football team defeated the Bloomfield Bengals, 27-6, on Friday evening, October 12, on the LHS Turf. The Lancers improved their record to two wins against three losses. The evening also included halftime performances by the LHS marching band and cheerleaders, as well as a tribute to this year’s Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. Tennis Team Advances in State Tournament

Tennis Team Advances in State Tournament

The Livingston High School girls’ varsity tennis team advanced to the North I, Group IV Sectional Tournament final with a 5-0 victory over Morristown at the Memorial Park tennis courts in the Sectional semi-final on Thursday, October 10. Ridgewood defeated Bergen Tech in the other semi-final.

Livingston 5, Morristown 0: Valencia Xu defeated Grace Starcher, 6-0, 6-1, at first singles in a dominant performance. At second singles, Morristown’s Maddie Siegel was leading Emma Conforti, 7-6 (9-7), 4-2, but had to “retire” due to leg cramps. Brielle Schwartz overpowered Morristown’s Eliana Milich at third singles, 6-1, 6-1.

LHS Girls’ Cross Country Team Wins Super Essex Conference Championship

The Super Essex Conference (SEC) championship, rescheduled several times due to weather, ended with the Livingston High School girls’ cross country team winning the Liberty Division title.

The Liberty Division consists of 12 teams. “The Lady Lancers,” recounted coach Dave Czeizinger, “had a decent season, managing to post a 20-8 overall SEC record, and were a solid 9-2 in Liberty Division competition. The Lady Lancers went into the meet ranked third. They were eager to avenge the earlier losses to West Essex and Mount Saint Dominic.”

In the competition, each team was allowed a maximum of seven varsity runners on the line, with no mixing of teams from other divisions.

Boys’ Track Team Places Seventh in Conference Championships

Philmon Mehari Wins Division Race:

The Livingston High School boys’ cross country team traveled to Branch Brook Park in Newark on Monday, October 7, for the last time this season to compete in the American Conference Championships. This event is the most competitive of the three conferences. The team ran well, with many Lancers recording personal best times. Senior Philmon Mehari took first place in his event, and the Lancers finished in seventh place overall with 166 total team points.

Undefeated 1972 Soccer Team Entering Big L Club Hall of Fame

Livingston High School’s first undefeated varsity athletic team will be honored next month, entering the Big L Club Livingston High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The 1972 Boys Varsity Soccer Team will be the first team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The 1972 team was undefeated, earning a perfect 22-0 record that included a state championship. They finished the season as Group 4 champions and were ranked as the top team in New Jersey.
