Residents Play in Cricket Tournament

RESIDENTS PLAY IN CRICKET TOURNAMENT: Two Livingston residents, Hardik Mhatre and Ved Churiwala, played in a ten-day, 25-overs cricket tournament for players under 19. The tournament took place July 27 to August 5 in Mississauga, Canada, and had eight teams from Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, and the USA participating. Mhatre and Churiwala played for the Atlantic Region Cricket Board of the USA. Their team won three games before losing to Ontario Cricket Academy of Canada in the semi-finals.

Dodgers Sweep Doubleheader

The Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball league pulled into a virtual tie for first place with Staten Island by taking both ends of a doubleheader against the New Jersey Brewers on Sunday, August 11, in Long Valley. Game scores were 7-0 and 7-4.

In game one, pitcher Craig Marsden tallied his eighth win of the season, hurling a three-hit shut-out. He walked one and struck out five.

The Dodgers banged out 14 hits, with Paul Boulanger leading the attack with three singles. Frank Moretti, Troy Evans, Silas Ashmore, Craig Smith, and Pete Diaz each contributed two hits. Evans had two RBIs. Carlos Gonzalez also had a hit.

LHS Grad Co-Hosts Charity Golf Outing

Layups 4 Life will hold its inaugural “Drive Out Cancer” charity golf outing on Monday, September 16.

Co-founded by Dana Levine Exter, a 2004 graduate of Livingston High School, and her husband, Dan Exter, the organization raises funds for cancer research and clinical trials.

Check-in time is 7:30 a.m., with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The event is being held at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth.

Edelstein Helps USA Win Silver At Maccabi Games

For the second time, Gayle Edelstein of Livingston participated in a winning volleyball team at an international Maccabi event.

She helped the women’s USA open volleyball team to a silver medal at the PanAmerican Maccabi Games, held in Mexico City, Mexico, from July 5 to 15. In 2017, in Israel, Edelstein helped the USA junior volleyball team earn a gold medal.

This time, the women’s team lost to Brazil in the finals. “But since we beat Brazil during the week,” Edelstein said with a chuckle, “in my eyes we’re both in first place. Both teams have the same record, four and one,” she pointed out.

Team Wins Section Championship; Will Host State Tournament

The 11U Livingston Little League baseball team continued its winning season, completing a 3-0 sweep to win the Section 2 Championship.

The team beat Hoboken, 5-1, on Monday night, July 16, in Fort Lee. The boys will now move on to the New Jersey State Championship in a double elimination format.

The boys will now move onto the sectional round, starting today, Thursday, July 11, in Fort Lee. Bike Team Completes Challenging Event

Livingston’s IndoBikers team participated in a ride that is known for its challenging elevations and distances in Hudson Valley, New York. Ajay Bansal, Krishna Maridi, Yash Chaudhary and 11-year-old Yuvaraj Chaudhary finished the 55-mile ride, climbing 3000 feet of elevation. The 75-mile finishers include Jitesh Toshniwal, Rahul Hukeri and Ketan Bhuptani, who climbed 5000 feet to successfully complete the ride. Dodgers Split Doubleheader with N.J. Royals

In a battle for first place in the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball league, the Livingston Dodgers split a doubleheader with the New Jersey Royals. The Royals took the first game, 7-2, and the Dodgers captured the nightcap, 13-6.

Former Dodger Adam Slater won the first game on the mound for the Royals, scattering eight hits and walking none. The Dodgers’ only runs came in the first inning. Frank Moretti singled and went to third on a failed pick-off attempt. He scored on a Troy Evans ground-out. Rob Pettigrew had two hits for the Dodgers. Pitcher Craig Marsden took the loss on the mound.
