Sunday Dodgers Win First Round in Play-Offs

U.S. Over Thirty (U.S.O.T.) League, Sunday Division, took the first step in defending their state championship by defeating the Edison Yankees, 7-3, in the first round of play-offs on Sunday, August 30. The game saw all the Dodgers paying at peak efficiently for a total team effort. Pitcher Gino Coltelli was superb, going all nine rounds on the mound, limiting the Yankees to six hits and one earned run, while striking out four.

Shannon Kelly Returns Home

News about Livingston residents helping to raise $50,000 in two days to bring injured Livingston High School graduate Shannon Kelly home from an out-of-state hospital was reported on the front page of the Tribune two weeks ago. Since that time, Shannon has returned to New Jersey. The money raised was used for the expense of the air ambulance that transported her back home from the Florida hospital where she was treated following a very serious car accident that occurred while she was visiting a friend in the state. She sustained injuries to her liver and knee, as well as a spinal injury that required surgery.

Dodgers' "Doc" Pollak Wins 1,026th Baseball Game

William "Doc" Pollak, player and manger of the U.S. Over Thirty (U.S.O.T.) Livingston Dodgers, picked up the 1,026th win of his career as his team crushed their opposing namesakes, the Wall Dodgers, 16-1. Pollak went all the way on the pitchers' mound, allowing five hits, striking out three, and walking none in the game, which took place Wednesday, August 12, in Livingston.

Team Air Group Wins Joe Valentine Tournament

Team Air Group held off Jet Air, 17-16, to win the second annual Joe Valentine Memorial Softball Tournament on Saturday, August 1, at Mt. Pleasant Middle School. The tournament was initiated last year to raise funds for the family of Joe Valentine, who was raised in Livingston and died of multiple myeloma in 2013.

Two Livingston Teams Compete in Relay Race

Two Livingston teams of seven runners each competed in the 20th annual River to Sea Relay, a 91 mile distance from Milford to Manasquan, on August 1. The running relay race of 14 legs, which usually takes about ten to 11 hours, consists of teams of seven runners and two vans.
