LHS Volleyball Team Advances in Tourney

The Livingston High School boys' volleyball team enters the third round of the North 2 section of the State Tournament with an impressive win over North 13th Street on Thursday afternoon. Livingston defeated North 13th Street by scores of 25-14, 25-13. This was the third time the Lancers have faced this strong team, which took them to the maximum three games in their two previous meetings.

Lancer Matt Scavetta Wins State Sectional Pole Vault Championship

Matt Scavetta continued his impressive senior season as he led the Lancer boys' varsity track and field team this past weekend at the NJSIAA North I Group IV State Sectional Championships. Scavetta had entered the pole vault competition at 11'6" with 14 of the 31 qualified pole vaulters still jumping.

Lancer Baseball Team Wins Three; Faces Hackensack in Sectional Playoffs

The Livingston Lancer varsity baseball team lost to Seton Hall, 17-1, in five innings away, on Monday, May 11; but, then went on for three straight wins. The Lancers defeated Montclair, 8-7, at home on Wednesday, May 13, beat Bloomfield at home, 14-7, on Friday, May 15, and routed Union, 10-0, on Saturday, May 16, at home to finish the week. On Wednesday, the Lancers took on the Montclair Mounties, looking to follow up their five inning loss to Seton Hall with a win. Livingston went down, 4-0, in the top of the first inning after the Mounties plated two runners on an RBI triple and a two-run homerun.

Tennis Team Defeats MKA and W. Orange

The Livingston High School boys' tennis team defeated Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA) twice in Super Essex Conference matches and West Orange in a regular season match during the past week. Livingston 3, MKA 2: The singles lineup of Anthony Caputo, Sam Farber, and Harrison Chiger provided the team with three points for the victory. Montclair Kimberley’s Jack Ross and Alex Pai at fi rst doubles defeated Josh Brodkin and Jason Vernoff, 6-4,6-0. Montclair Kimberley won second doubles in three sets when Joey Smuckler and Guyon Ganchi defeated Michael Segal and Kyle Ferguson, 3-6,6-4,6-3.

Record Setting Week by Scavetta and Berger Lead Boys' Spring Track and Field Squad

Livingston High School was host to 30 track and fi eld teams from Essex County at the Essex County Relay Championship (ECRC) on Friday May 1. The following Monday, they faced a strong West Orange team in a Super Essex Conference (SEC) dual meet and then came right back on May 9 to compete in the SEC American division championships. At the ECRC, the top six fi nishers in each event score points toward the coveted team title. The boys’ squad tallied 15 points for a 13th place finish. They were able to medal in four of the 16 events with several quality performances which just missed the top six spots.

Lancers Top West Essex in First Round Of Greater Newark Baseball Tournament

The Livingston Lancer varsity baseball team lost to Belleville, 12-0, at home and Millburn, 5-4, away, before defeating West Essex, 5-3, at home in the first round of the Greater Newark Tournament on Thursday, April 30, and overwhelming Caldwell, 13-1, away on Friday, May 1. On Thursday, the Lancers faced the West Essex Knights in their first home game of the week looking to bounce back from their back to back losses to Belleville and Millburn. The Knights had a 2-0 lead in the first inning, which they preserved into the third when they added one more run to put them ahead, 3-0. However, in the fourth inning, the Lancers shrunk the West Essex lead to 3-1 when a wild pitch got behind the Knights’ catcher, allowing Jarrett Birnbaum to steal home.

Lancers Reach Quarterfinal Round Of Essex County Lacrosse Tournament

The Livingston Lancer lacrosse team defeated Columbia, 8-6, on Saturday, May 2, to reach the quarterfinal round of the Essex County tournament. With the win, the #7-seeded Lancers were scheduled to face #2-seeded Monclair, which received a bye to the quarterfinal round as the second seed and is 6-6 for the season.
