Valencia Xu of Livingston Wins USTA National Indoor Title

Coming off a finals appearance at the US Tennis Association (USTA) 16s National Clay Court Championships this summer, Valencia Xu of Livingston defeated San Marino, California native Anessa Lee, 6-2, 6-2, to win the Girls’ 18s singles title at the Racquet Club of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee last week.

Valencia, 15 years old and a sophomore at Livingston High School, has won consecutive USTA National Indoor Championship Titles after winning the Girls’ 14s singles title a year ago.

Sixth Graders Compete in Table Tennis Tournament

Livingston residents Oishik Mukherjee and Shiv Kulkarni competed in the 21st annual North American Table Tennis Teams Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. The event, sponsored by Joola, was held at the Gaylord Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

Said to be the largest of its kind, the three-day competition features players from all over the United States, as well as entrants from around the world, giving players a chance to compete at a global level. Approximately 300 teams, with over 1,000 players, at all levels, participated this year.

Mehari Completes Stellar Cross Country Season

Lancer cross country star Philmon Mehari completed a stellar cross country season with a berth in the Meet of Champions.

The Meet of Champions was first held November 22, 1972. The 2018 race, marking the event’s 47th anniversary, was held Saturday, November 17, at Holmdel.

Lancer Harrier Philmon Mehari Qualifies for State Championships

Lancer cross country star Philmon Mehari qualified for the Group 4 state championships after a stellar performance in the sectionals.

“The first step in the three tier State Championship tournament is fought at the Sectional level,” coach James Memory said. “A top five team or a top ten individual finish is needed to advance to the next round at the Group 4 State Championship race at the famous Holmdel Park course.”

Lancer Football Team Routs Columbia

The Livingston High School varsity football team celebrated its fifth victory of the season after a 49-13 rout of the Columbia Cougars on Friday night, October 26. “The team’s teamwork was evident because the team thrived in all three aspects of the game – offense, defense, and special teams,” noted coach Robert Breschard. “Captains Joe Cullen, Marco Fusari, Drew Nardone, Austin Paris, Jack Ernst, and M.J. DePaola consistently contributed with their individual performances and leadership.

Stealth White 8U Team Remains Undefeated

The 8U Livingston Stealth White baseball team continued its undefeated season by beating the second place team, Summit, 9-6, on the road on Sunday, October 14.

The team remains atop the leaderboard in the USABL National North 1 Division with only one regular season game left. They have clinched the #1 seed for the postseason.
