BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS: USC recently won the Livingston Recreation Basketball League’s fifth grade boys’ championship on a clutch last-second outside shot by Jared Melamed. Team members include, front, Jordan Bender, Markus Gutch, Jared Melamed, Daniel Bourdett, Max Feldman, and Jackson Levine; and rear, coach Marc Bender, Edward Chen, Reece Melamed, Adon Panjikaran, and coach David Melamed. Also on the team is Nikhil Rochlani. “Special thanks to league commissioners Bill Nisivoccia and David Beckman for running a smooth and fun season for the fifth grade boys,” said coach Bender.

LHS Ice Hockey Players Team Up With Shining Stars Floor Hockey Team

The Livingston High School boys ice hockey team joined the Shining Stars special needs floor hockey team on Saturday, February 24 at Monmouth Court Community Center. The event kicked off the Shining Stars’ six-week winter floor hockey program.

Assistant coach Trey Peacock arrived with his team to teach stick skills and interactive games in a “fun” way. During the clinic, each of his team members paired up with a Shining Star player to be a “buddy.”

Livingston Junior Lancer Lacrosse Alumni Flourish at Highest Levels of College Lacrosse

Three alumni of the Livingston Junior Lancer Lacrosse League – Tommy Heller, Stephen Russo, and Brian Tevlin – have taken their game to leading NCAA Division I and Division III Lacrosse programs.

Tommy Heller is a 2018 preseason All-American attackman at Gettysburg University, the sixth best NCAA Division III Lacrosse team in the country. While only 5’6” tall and weighing 150 pounds, Heller is emblematic of the lacrosse saying, “Size doesn’t matter; what matters is your heart, your mind, and your work ethic.”

Little League Opening Day Declared ‘Knock Cancer Out of the Park Day’

Opening day for Livingston Little League will also include the opening of the 2018 “Knock Cancer Out of the Park” fundraising drive.

Initiated by Steven Arsht of Livingston, “Knock Cancer Out of the Park” was established last year for the purpose of increasing pediatric cancer awareness and raising money for pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Arsht created the campaign in honor of Jake Kestler, his son Hayden’s best friend, who defeated one pediatric cancer only to be now facing another.

LHS Advances Two to Wrestling Championships

Livingston High School wrestlers will be headed down the Garden State Parkway on Friday, March 2, to compete in the NJSIAA State Championships in Atlantic City. After a weekend filled with intense competition, seniors Anthony Petrillo and Kenny Newman will represent the Lancers at Boardwalk Hall.

The two co-captains had slightly different routes to the big show. Newman, a 182 pounder who finished second in the District 12 Tournament a week ago, had to wrestle on Wednesday night, February 21, to keep his season alive. He answered the call by defeating Hanover Park’s Sabastian Bassolino, 15-4.

Three Wrestlers Named District Champions, Cuneo Named District 12 Coach of the Year

The Livingston Lancer wrestling team sent four wrestlers to the District 12 Finals this past Saturday, February 17, with three becoming district champions.

Michael Petrillo (113 pounds), Anthony Petrillo (126), and Ryan Valese (195) all took home district titles. For Anthony Petrillo, this was his second consecutive district win.

Hockey Team Advances to Conference Finals

Livingston High School’s varsity ice hockey team has advanced to the Conference finals for the fourth time in six years. A great team effort gave the Lancers a 1-0 shut-out win Monday night over Montclair, which is ranked #1 in public A schools. Junior forward Max Solomon scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the second period and senior goalie Matt Delseni secured the win with 22 saves.

The game marked Delseni’s eighth shut-out of the year. The senior goaltender was named first team, allconference for the 2017-18 season, and, said coach Dave Conklin, “is considered one of the top goaltenders in New Jersey.” He has allowed just 28 goals on 545 shots.

Liu Rolls Livingston’s First Perfect Game; Varsity Bowlers Conclude Winning Season

The Livingston High School varsity bowling team concluded its regular season this past week, with matches against Seton Hal Prep and Millburn. Sophomore Michael Liu rolled a perfect game against Millburn, while LHS clinched the Conference title.

As the last week of the regular season approached, the Livingston High School varsity bowling team found itself sitting in second place, one point behind Seton Hall Prep.

Lancer Wrestlers Win SEC Liberty Division

After going 8-13 last season, the Lancer wrestlers continued their bounce-back season and finished undefeated in the Super Essex Conference. They also earned the third seed in the North Jersey Group 5 state sectional tournament. Livingston clinched the Division Championship by topping Montclair and Glen Ridge last week. The outstanding wrestling of co-captains Anthony Petrillo, Matt Nichter and Kenny Newman have enabled the Lancers to dominate their local matches.
