SOFTBALL TEAM DEFEATS RIDGEWOOD: Livingston’s varsity softball team defeated Ridgewood and were defeated by Columbia, closing out an 18 and 7 season. The Lancers shut out Ridgewood, 10-0, in the semi-finals of the state tournament on Wednesday, May 31, at home. According to sports photographer Don Schwartz, Livingston highlights included Olivia Melucci’s three runs scored; Allie Nankivell’s three hits; three RBIs by Caitlin Hernandez; and a shutout thrown by pitcher Sophia Mount, which included eight strikeouts. The Lancers were defeated by Columbia, 7-5, on the Oval during the finals of the NJSIAA North Section 1 Group 4 State Tournament on Saturday, June 3. Highlights included three hits, four RBIs, and a game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh inning by Nankivell. Lancer pitcher Mount had nine strikeouts going the distance against the Cougars. Lancer Varsity Baseball Team Records Two Shut-Outs

The Livingston High School varsity baseball team recorded shutouts in two recent games.

The Lancers defeated the West New York Memorial Tigers, 1-0, in the first round of the NJSIAA State Tournament on the Oval on Monday, May 22. Lancer starting pitcher Julian Schultz hurled the first six shutout innings, and was followed by Alex Yang to close out the game.

Livingston next defeated the Union City Soaring Eagles, 10-0, on Thursday, May 25, on the Oval. Lancer Daniel Levine scored three runs and had two hits. Alex Yang had three RBIs, while pitcher Jon DePalma had four strikeouts in the win.

The Lancer record now stands at 17-10.

Brian Tevlin Leads Notre Dame To First Men’s Lacrosse Title

Livingston resident Brian Tevlin, co-captain of the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team, scored the winning goal to send the team to the finals. Tevlin then scored the go-ahead goal in that game to defeat Duke University and claim the team’s first NCAA Division 1 championship.

Tevlin started playing with the Junior Lancers Lacrosse Club in second grade, while attending Hillside School. He went on to Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, where he played at the varsity level for all four years of high school. As a freshman at Yale University in 2018, Tevlin and the Bulldogs earned their first NCAA Championship in men’s lacrosse program history.

SOFTBALL TAKES TWO WINS: Livingston’s varsity softball team defeated the Memorial Tigers, 18-0, on Tuesday, May 23, and the Fair Lawn Cutters, 6-0, on Friday, May 26, in State Tournament games on the Oval. Lancer Sophia Mount pitched both shutout games while striking out 11 in each game. During Tuesday’s game, Allie Nankivell scored three runs and Heather Downey had three RBIs. VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES IN STATE TOURNAMENT: Livingston’s boys’ varsity volleyball team defeated the Bayonne Bees, 2-0, at home in the first round of the NJSIAA State Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, May 24. The Lancers defeated Ridge, 2-0, at home on Tuesday, May 23. Seniors were honored prior to Tuesday’s game. LIVINGSTON DEFEATS CALDWELL: Livingston’s varsity baseball team defeated Caldwell, 4-2, on the road on Monday, May 15. Livingston defeated Seton Hall Prep, 17-8, on the Oval, on Wednesday, May 17. The Lancers hosted West Essex at Tevlin Field on Thursday, May 18, and were defeated, 12-8. The Lancer record stands at 15 wins and 9 losses. Boys’ Track Team Places Second At Essex County Championships
Boys’ Track Team Places Second At Essex County Championships

The Livingston High School boys’ track and field team placed second at the Essex County Championships behind Seton Hall Prep on Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19, at Newark Schools Stadium. The boys competed against 36 other teams, and amassed 59 points, scoring in the sprints, hurdles, distance, throws, and jumps.

The top six finishers in the two-day meet in the different events included: co-captain Matt Ho, who was fourth in the 110 high hurdles, fourth in the 400 intermediate hurdles and second in the pole vault; co-captain Luke Petryna, who was third in both the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes; Chase Kaufman, who placed third in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100-meter dash; Ray Oji, who was third in the 110 high hurdles; Chase Spiegler, who placed third in the Javelin; Nick Siao, who took third in the pole vault; Ricky Romero, who was sixth in the 1,600-meter run; Chase Wade, who placed sixth in the 400-meter dash; and Will Sun, who placed sixth in long jump.

SOFTBALL RECORD AT 14-4: The LHS varsity softball team won three out of four games last week. Livingston defeated Verona, 7-1, on Monday, May 8, at the Oval. The Lancer seniors were honored after the victory. Livingston traveled to Columbia to defeat the Cougars, 9-3, on Wednesday, May 10. The Lancers were defeated, 6-0, by Donovan Catholic on Friday, May 12, at Ivy Hill Park on Seton Hall University’s campus. Livingston defeated West Essex, 5-0, on Saturday, May 13, at the Oval. The Lancers will play Cedar Grove on Friday, May 19, at Ivy Hill Park in the semi-finals of the Essex County Tournament. GOLF TEAM DEFEATS MILLBURN: The LHS boys’ golf team defeated Millburn, 153-158, at the Canoe Brook Country Club on Wednesday, May 10. The Lancers shot their lowest score of the season, led by Ridhit Beri’s 36 and Ryan Zales’ 37. Livingston next defeated Montclair Kimberley Academy, 158-213, on Thursday, May 11, at Cedar Hill.
