Lorraine Allen
Born and raised in Newark, Lorraine was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. She went on to pursue nursing at Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Paterson, launching a career in the medical field that spanned several decades. Throughout her professional life, she worked in a number of physicians’ offices and concluded her career at the office of Dr. John Franzese. A woman of deep faith, Lorraine was a devoted parishioner of both Saint Raphael’s Church in Livingston and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland. Her commitment to her faith and community were a guiding light throughout her life. In a tribute to her spiritual devotion, a Mass was offered in her memory on the day after her passing, May 2, 2025, at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome, celebrated by Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Monsignor Anthony Figueiredo.
Lorraine had a passion for travel – she especially cherished her trips to Ireland and her voyages aboard the Queen Mary. She was also a skilled and competitive bridge player and enjoyed her time as a member of the Suburban Golf Club, where

her intellect and spirited nature were well known. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph Gaunt and Lorraine Faulkner Gaunt, her beloved husband of 60 years, Peter W. Allen, and her siblings, Joseph, Grace, and Claire. She is survived by her loving sons, Mark Allen and his wife, Sandy; Todd Allen and his wife, Ruth; and JohnAllen and his wife, Karen; cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, Kevin, Connor, Mackenzie and Luke; as well as several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will begin on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland NJ. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Roseland, New Jersey, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookfarmer.com.
