Committee Details Plans For New Plastic Rules

The Ad Hoc Plastic Committee, a group of Livingston business owners and residents who worked to create new guidelines for plastic use in the township, presented their findings to the Township Council at the Monday, October 21, conference meeting.

Beth Lippman, who runs the Livingston Business Improvement District, and Eric Baltuch, who runs Livingston’s recycling committee, headed the committee and addressed the Council on Monday, detailing the group’s plans for plastic reduction.

“Some of it is more ambitious than other committees (from other towns that have passed plastic ordinances), but we wanted to put our flag in the sand with our goals,” Baltuch said. Much of the language in the proposal was taken from a Cranford plastics ordinance, he added.

“Our Public Works employees do a great job on leaf collection every year,” said Department of Public Works (DPW) superintendent Mike Anello. “Every year, we publish our Leaf Collection Program Schedule, along with a reminder to our residents of the rules and guidelines for the program.”

Underground Gas Work

Underground Gas Work

UNDERGROUND GAS WORK caused traffic delays in the Northfield Road-Route 10 circle area on Friday, October 11. According to Livingston junior water utility engineer Nathan Kiracofe, Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) was running gas service for a new car wash at the circle. The underground work necessitated the closing of lanes on West Northfield Road, and the work took longer than initially expected, Kiracofe said, continuing on throughout the afternoon. Traffic back-ups were heavy by 3:30 p.m., when this photo was taken. The work was done by 5:30 p.m., Kiracofe said. JCC Photo

A Bit About the BID

A few weeks ago, Livingston’s Business Improvement District (BID) distributed its annual directory, mailing a copy to each and every home in town. The directory is produced by the Tribune on behalf of the BID; we provide the photographs, the layout work, and sell the advertising. This is a handy booklet for all businesses that are part of the BID, arranging them by category and including addresses and contact information. But the directory is just a small part of what the BID does for Livingston.

The BID is a volunteer organization that works to keep Livingston businesses healthy and growing; the BID also makes sure the township’s business area continues to invest in itself and its future. It is a liaison between business and commercial property owners and township departments, helps new businesses through the permit process and understanding ordinances, and assists businesses in planning their marketing programs.
